National “AI in Smart Cities” Report Uncovers Consumer Sentiment about Technology’s Impact

Based on a survey of 2,000 U.S. residents, the report identified areas where consumers believe AI will deliver the biggest gains for urban living.
New York, NY; March 12, 2025 – Sand Technologies, an enterprise AI solutions company, today published its first-annual “AI in Smart Cities” report as a resource for city and county leaders to better understand public sentiment about smart cities and AI. Based on a survey of 2,000 U.S. residents, the report reveals residents’ perspectives and expectations about AI adoption, its benefits and the challenges it holds for city leaders.

Called “AI in Smart Cities 2025: What Do Residents Think?”, the report (available for download here) includes a number of takeaways that public leaders will find useful as they explore the AI use cases their constituents are most likely to support. The original research also uncovered areas where residents believe AI is already having a positive impact on city living – indicating that support for AI may be even stronger when it comes to smart cities than it is in certain enterprise applications.
According to the report, more than two-thirds of residents believe AI will drive future improvements in their quality of life. In addition, consumers indicated a distinct belief that AI is already delivering real benefits in public safety, healthcare and environmental management.

The survey-based report did illuminate areas for improvement, including a clear need for public engagement; improved communication and clarity about how to define a “smart city” and its benefits; and addressing privacy and funding concerns.

As public leaders explore new smart city AI services and look for ways to accelerate their digital transformation, Sand Technologies’ latest report offers a number of lessons for city and county administrators to consider. You can download a free copy of the report at this link.
